Hot Air Balloons

The weather was perfect for enjoying some hot air balloons today.

This was the only cloud in the sky, but it kept the sun from blinding us for the entire evening.

New iPod Nano

How do they keep coming up with things that make you want to buy new one—that’s what’s crazy. Andrea while looking at the new Nano

New Lighting Effect

We spent last night with my brother and his wife enjoying some Alfredo Pizza, Queso, and a little lighting experiment. I love what it did to the hair.

Run it Faster

But you could’ve run it faster than that, right?

Here are a few shots from the race.

This first picture shows how dense the roads were. With over 30,000 runners, the roads really didn’t clear up the entire time.

Baby Steps

My wife officially launched her blog today!

Baby Steps

She jumped ahead of at least three other people waiting on me to help them set up their blogs and managed to talk me into designing her site with a scrapbooking look. She did most of the work and created all the scrapbook images.

Be sure to visit Baby Steps, and let her know what you think of the site. You can also subscribe once you’re there to keep up with the latest Baby Steps she’s taking.

Monopoly

Spent the weekend playing Monopoly with the family.

This is so much more fun than the old version—probably because you can spend money so much faster!

Pumpkin Day at Floydada

My grandpa came across this picture in an old newspaper with me and my brothers at Floydada’s Pumpkin Day. I’m the one on my knees at the first bucket. I can still remember the sheer number of pumpkins - everywhere - and the largest pumpkin contest with small-sized-car pumpkins.

Hard Working Mamarie

After her funeral, I went by Mamarie’s house one last time and found this very used garden hoe that has been filed down over and over again having survived so many uses. I definitely don’t work hard in her terms.

Memory of Mamarie

Today my great grandmother passed away. Born in 1908, having lived nearly a century, she has seen and been through plenty.

I have some very fond memories of her and the stories she told—working in the fields, half-court-dirt-floor basketball, and more. I remember visiting her house for Thanksgivings when she would cook a feast in her small kitchen as we played football across the street. She left a few jewels with me that I’d like to remember throughout my life. Read More »

What is this Marriage

Couple Walking

My wife and I recently decided to go through a marriage series together. We started on the first of several messages on marriage from John Piper.

The first in the series is called, “Staying Married is not about Staying in Love.”

John starts off with the idea that not only do we have a misconception of what marriage is, but that without divine revelations and the illumining work of the Holy Spirit, we cannot understand God’s design for marriage.

Wow! I had never really thought of it that way.

People all over the world have been getting married, but I never stopped to think that we cannot truly understand what marriage is all about without God revealing it to us. We can get married, have a good relationship, raise a family, but without God showing us, we cannot, and do not have the ability to, know what this marriage thing is all about. Why is it that:

The natural man does not have the capacities to see or receive or feel the wonder of what God has designed for marriage to be.
